چکیده

This study presents the experimental verification of a damage monitoring and evaluation method for building structures based on the measurement of Relative Story Displacements (RSDs). The damage evaluation method is formulated to detect the damaged locations of structural elements and evaluate their damage degree based on the displacement loading analysis by the time histories of measured RSDs. Furthermore in the evaluation process, the analytical technique is introduced to compensate for the measurement errors associated with the properties of sensors. The monitoring accuracies are analyzed through the shaking table test of a full-scale 4-sotry steel-moment resisting framing building carried out at E-defense in Japan. The results indicate the effectiveness of the proposed damage evaluation method in its applications to the Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system.

Evaluation of Damage Distribution in Elements of Dual Frames

Researches show that the strength criterion is inadequate for design of structures against seismic loads. Since structures yield and experience plastic deformation under strong ground motion, considering structural damage with inelastic behavior may be a considerable criterion for design and control of the structures. In this paper, three steel structures with dual system consisting of intermedi...

Evaluation of Performance Levels of Zipper-Braced Frames Using Structural Damage Index

The determination of structural and nonstructural damage under earthquake excitations is usually considered as a key factor in performance-based seismic design (PBSD) methods is In this regard, various damage indices have been developed in recent years to quantitatively estimate structural damage. The aim of this study is to develop a simple method to evaluate performance levels of zipper-brace...

Evaluation of Nonlinear Response of Structures to Near-Fault Ground Motions and the Comparison of Results with Near-Fault Simulated Records

Near-fault ground motions have caused very much damage in the vicinity of seismic sources during recent earthquakes. It is well known that under specific circumstances, intensive ground shakings near fault ruptures may be characterized by short-duration impulsive motions. This pulse-type motion is generally particular to the forward direction, where the fault rupture propagates towards the site...

Evaluation of Stiffness Changes in a High-Rise Building by Measurements of Lateral Displacements Using GPS Technology

The outrigger truss system is one of the most frequently used lateral load resisting structural systems. However, little research has been reported on the effect of installation of outrigger trusses on improvement of lateral stiffness of a high-rise building through full-scale measurements. In this paper, stiffness changes of a high-rise building due to installation of outrigger trusses have be...

The Effect of Tuned Mass Damper on Seismic Response of Building Frames with Uncertain Structural Characteristics

Tuned mass dampers (TMDs) could be used to absorb the input energy of the applied load, and reduce the response of the building frames. However, the effectiveness of TMD in reducing the response of the building frames could be affected by inherited uncertainties in the structural characteristics of the frames. In this study, in order to investigate the probabilistic response of steel moment-res...
